Why Drake SHOULD Executive Produce Aaliyah’s Posthumous Album

There are rumors circulating that Drake will serve as the executive producer for Aaliyah’s next posthumous, untitled album.

The rapper, who has a tattoo of the songstress on his back, is undeniably influenced by Aaliyah and should stand behind the boards to produce her next album. It’s easy to point at Aaliyah’s former collaborators, Missy and Timberland, to guide the reins, but really, it’s should be a person who is relevant and can bring an old R&B sound right back into the forefront of music.

The accomplishments of the trio of Missy, Timberland and Aaliyah aren’t unnoticed but when’s the last time their names appeared on a chart, or the last time you heard a single from them on the radio? Drake’s style of singing is eerily familiar to the late songstress in terms of tone, rhythm, melody, and speed. He even sampled her on his first album. It would be a seamless transition for Drake, who is an award winning songwriter for R&B artists, not ghostwriting for Diddy.

Drake will do well in this role, he hasn’t failed yet and some of his most memorable tracks are ones with strong R&B melodies to it. He is expected to premier his new single featuring Aaliyah at OVO Fest this coming Sunday in Toronto.
